3 Things that Affect Your Conversion Rate

We all do a lot many things to pull people to our blogs, websites, and online stores in a hope that some of them will act and buy the product you are selling, or click the links on your website or fill the form you want them to fill. But, it often happens that people come, browse and go without taking any action whatsoever, other than clicking the close button or typing another URL. This is a cause of worry for all webmasters who face this every day.

There are many things that you can do to improve the conversion rate – that ranges from big changes to small tweaking. In this article, I will tell you about 3 such things. The things I am going to discuss may look like simple tweaking, but they have immense effect on the conversion rate of your website. I will suggest to not mess up with the following principles, should you want visitors to take desirable action.

3 conversation rate maximizing principles

Remove the fine prints

Do not keep prices, taxes, fines, interests, etc., hidden by a link. Tell your users how much will he be charged and for what. Do not bury the details in a link. You should be transparent in your dealings —particularly financial dealings — and tell your visitors upfront what he will be paying to use your services.

Send reports

Send periodic reports to everyone whom you bill monthly. Tell them what you are billing them for in each of your mail. If they are paying you then they deserve a monthly statement as well. I am not asking you to send a printed statement or bill every month. An email will do the trick.

If sending mails out to people is going to make them stop paying you then rethink about your product and redesign it.

Make it easy to quit

Do not just make it easy to quit, but tell your buyers as well. They should know that they will not be trapped in the system forever if they subscribe once. Tell them you do not have any intention to have unsatisfied customer.

If you can manage these three things well then you will see a sharp rise in the number of people taking the action you want them to take.

Life beyond Keyword Density

Keyword density is an important concept. It tells you how many keywords you should use in an article of so many words. It tells you about the fine line that you should not cross, if your goal is to get listed by a search engine.

This is good information, but this is not all. There are many things about keyword usage that lies beyond the scope of keyword density. Following a 2% or 5% keyword density is good, as it will save you from getting blacklisted, but it will not guarantee a place in a search engine. To secure a prominent place in a search engine, you need to consider the following:

  1. Search engine place significant weight on anchor text, so use appropriate keyword in the anchor text.
  2. Meta keyword has lost its charm, thanks to keywords stuffers; still, putting your keywords here will not hurt you in anyway. And in some cases it may benefit you as well.
  3. Meta keyword may have lost its charm, but meta description tag is still going strong. You should, thus, use it wisely.
  4. Put your most important keyword as early in the title as you can because search engines give title tag a lot of weight.
  5. Heading tags (H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6) play very important role, so make sure you have keywords in these places.
  6. Use keywords in strong, bold, and italicized texts. They matter a lot for search engines. You should provide these attributes to your keywords, at least once.
  7. Write for the human reader, not for the search engine. Abusing keywords is not right.
  8. Use LSI keywords to build the context of the article.
  9. Do not stuff your article will irrelevant keywords.
  10. Use keywords to interlink your posts.

Apart from these, you should also work towards making your website look authoritative. Along with the domain age, authority of the website also plays a major role in getting a better ranking for a website. Authority could be built in the website by writing for the users, not for the search engines. Add value to the lives of your readers, and they will consider you an authority in your domain.

SEO and HTML 5

Prepare a farewell script and practice it. It is time to give a tight hug and bid farewell to HTML 4.01. It’s time to extend your arms to welcome HTML 5. It is going to make coding easy for web developers and easy-to-understand for SEO guys.

With HTML 5 the webpage will be free of multiple usages of <div> elements. Many new elements have been added to HTML5 that will make the use of <div ID=”ABC”> and <div class=”XYZ”> redundant.

Diff between HTML 4.1 and HTML 5

A typical Content layout in HTML 4.1 looks like:

<body>

<div id=”header”> …</div>

<div id=”nav”> …</div>

<div class=”article”> …</div>

<div class=”section”> …</div>

<div id=”sidebar”> …</div>

<div id=”footer”> …</div>

</body>

Content layout in HTML 5

<body>

<header>…</header>

<nav>…</nav>

<article>

<section>

        <h1>Level 1</h1>
        <section>
        <h1>Level 2</h1>
        <section>
        <h1>Level 3</h1>
        </section>

</section>

</section>

</article>

<aside>…</aside>

<footer>…</footer>

</body>

Tags like <video> and <audio> will help you imbed your audio and video files directly in your HTML pages, which means more control on how they appear on your web page.

A new <header> tag has been announced that gives more flexibility. It works similar to <H1> tag, but <header> will contain more elements like h1, h2, h3, a complete paragraph of text, hard-coded links, etc. It’s a blessing for SEO people.

This was just a brief overview of what will change once HTML 5.0 will become the standard. Lot many things will change, which we can witness only when it will be up and running. I am excited about it, and what about you? Are you also waiting for it as impatiently as I am? Share your view, I am all ears.
