Why Online Socializing and Networking is So Popular?

Have you ever wondered why online socializing and networking has witnessed such a huge popularity among all? When we all are social beings and have excellent opportunities of socializing and networking in our society, why many of us have chosen virtual medium instead? Well, these are some of the reasons behind growing popularity of social networking.

Sedentary lifestyle and lack of time in hand

These days the modern society has indeed taught us how unknowingly one can get trapped in slavery of corporates and spend the whole life in a couch consuming unlimited information supply. Sedentary lifestyle has become a fatal disease wrapping the entire society with its poisonous tentacles. People have convincingly accepted the lifestyle of a robot where they are tied to a couch of operation with a fat payment in reward. But money can’t buy time, happiness, laughter, love or friends. We need to earn them. To earn them we need to spend quality time with our family, friends and beloved ones. Social network expands only when we make an effort and spend time in the same. Since we are almost always working, what can we do other than socializing in the virtual medium that is Internet and make friends? Even if virtual that can be real too.

People like anonymousness

Since Internet is a virtual medium, every thing about it is beyond sight, sound, feel and knowledge. So one can make the best use of it. People can remain anonymous, unreal. People may hesitate to approach someone in reality or may not dare to be friends with a popular journalist; but on Internet, the medium being virtual and one being virtually present they can make the best use of it. It is also a trump card for the shy, introvert people who are not much interactive and smart in reality, but don’t mind to socialize on the Internet. They build long friend list, interact regularly, build network and enjoy privacy the medium offers.

Regular, frequent and fast interaction

Even if it may sound nice, regular meeting and interaction with friends is not possible in real life. It is not only impossible for time factor but also people may find it intrusive into privacy. Whereas on Internet people can regularly interact at their own pace and ease, easily avoid when busy or not in mood without being bugged, and interaction can also be pretty fast with tools like email, chatting etc.

Internet has been a potent tool for its users, for different reasons of socializing and networking.

Research Shows Teens Love Texting More Than Calling

According to a research conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, it was found that the US teens prefer text over cell phone calling for daily communication with their friends. Cell-phone calling was at number two in the research.

88% of total teen cell phone users and 72% of all the teens in the United States use their cell phone to send text message — it is a sharp rise of 21% in the number of teen texters in the last 3 plus years, which was 51% in 2006. And 54% of the US teens are daily texters, I.e., they send text messages daily. In recent years, the cell phone penetration among teens (12 to 17 year olds) has also increase from 45% in 2004 to 72% in 2010.

Teen Texting data

Among all the US teens who send at least one occasional text message to their friends:

  • 50% sends more than 50 text messages a day, or 1,500 text messages a month.
  • 1 in every 3 sends more than 100 text messages per day, or 3,000 text messages a month.
  • 15% of teens who indulge in sending text messages, sends 200 texts a day, or more than 6,000 text messages a month.
  • Boys typically receive 30 text messages in a day, whereas, girls receive 80 text messages every day.
  • On an average, teenagers between 12-13 years of age send and receive 20 text messages every day.
  • On an average, teenagers between 14-17 years of age send and receive 60 text messages every day.
  • On an average, girls between 14-17 years of age send 100 or more text messages every day, or 3,000 text messages a month.

Teenagers’ love for texting is evident from the above data, but to get more detail, see the image below.

The eventful year of 2009 is about to wrap up, and it is time to analyze what has happened in the year passed by (well about to pass by). Experian Hitwise has done a study of the most-visited websites of 2009, and to no one’s surprise Google.com is the most searched website second year in the row and mail.yahoo.com is the second most searched website for the second consecutive year in 2009 as well.

How to Know That You Need More RAM

The price of RAM has significantly gone down, which makes many people go for more RAM in their system. Moreover, they do it even without thinking if they actually need more RAM in their system. The truth is not many of us know how much RAM they need, therefore, I thought of writing this brief guide to tell you how much RAM do you need in your system.

What will happen if I upgrade RAM?

Well, if you are hoping to change your world by increasing the amount of RAM your system has then I am sorry to break the bad news, it is not going to happen. No matter how much RAM you put in ( I am talking here in GBs, may be more than 4), your application will be only so much faster.

  • More RAM helps in multi-tasking, particularly if you are using memory-hogs like Photoshop, Outlook, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Aftereffect, 3D Max, or Firefox with too many tabs.
  • If you have more memory, you can more swiftly switch open the open applications without sacrificing the speed.
  • Increasing RAM will not make any “one application” faster; rather it will help you do more things at once. You can have more memory-hogging application open at one time, if you get 8GB of RAM instead of 4GB.
  • More RAM will affect the performance of image editing software, video editing and special effect software, virtual machine, etc.

How much RAM do you need?

This depends upon your PC usage pattern. If you barely use your PC, or open just one application at one time, and you are running 32-bit Windows 7 then 2GB RAM will do, and if you are still running Windows XP then for you 1GB is sufficient (please no question on Vista, I hate that bugger). But, if you are a power user, and run many applications simultaneously, and keep 70-80 tabs open across your browsers (for me it runs sometimes in 100 across all 5 browsers that I keep open all time, and yes it does not include Internet explorer) then you will need 3 to 4GB of RAM.

I recommend having 3GB at least for average user and 6GB for power users if you are using 64-bit operating system (OS). In case, you are using 32-bit version of Windows (XP, 7 or even vista) then do not bother having more than 4GB RAM, your OS will not recognize it.

Be a “Can-Be” Entrepreneur

Starting out with your own business will probably be one of the most difficult decisions you will ever make, but the ends will definitely justify the means if you can commit yourself to being successful. There are millions of people in this world that have made the decision to forgo their own dreams and entrust their futures to the corporate world. With insurance options, benefit packages and many other perks, this has always been considered the ‘responsible’ decision for educated people, until now.

Today the world is faced with failing 401(k)s, diminishing benefits and massive layoff’s. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in November alone, employers laid-off over 224,079 workers. This doesn’t even begin to touch the recent corporate layoffs for 2009, from such giants as Nortel, Microsoft, Google, and Motorola.

More and more, we are seeing an amazing trend coming out of this newly unemployed workforce, they are going solo and becoming the entrepreneurs they have always dreamed of becoming. CNN Money and the editors of Money Magazine recently created a handbook for Would-Be Entrepreneur’s that states:

If your career to date has been spent inside organizational flow charts
with more layers than baklava, starting your own shop is bound to be an adjustment.

It’s business time people! It’s time to quit being a would-be entrepreneur and start living out your dreams. Whether you want to create furniture out of recycled beer cans or you have a passionate desire to become the next Web 2.0 Guru, the world is rediscovering the Land of Opportunity that it once was, and the choice is now completely yours.

whether you’ve lost your job or you just want to switch careers,
creating a business starts with a unique idea and a solid plan of action.
- Joe Wallace, President of Growth Alliance of Greater Evansville

Once you have the idea and create your plan, success no longer becomes a matter of the economic situation, but a matter of self-discipline and ingenuity.

The future now belongs to you – where in the world are you going from here?
